“We are the princesses of Europe right now!” Cruise, Day 1

Kelsey and I woke at 7:00 to make sure we could get breakfast with the group and say our goodbyes to all of those getting back on their bus at 8 to head to Venice to continue their journey. After our goodbyes, we hung around the campsite for a few hours before calling a cab to take us to the train station. Once there, we asked about tickets (biglietto) using mainly big hand gestures and receiving more hand gestures in response. Surprisingly, though, we could understand and made it onto the right train. Human communication is kind of awesome.

Saying goodbye to our tour guide, Dan.

The train ride to Citveccichia took about an hour, and once of, we walked all the way to the Costa cruise. And great news! We never had to pay for our train ticket. Yay! We went through the relatively short check-in process and then entered our HUGE ship. We found our room, and freaked out. We only have a little indoor cabin, but it was the most welcome sight ever.

A big full bed, a hair dryer, a closet space WITH DRAWERS, a TV, and a U.S. POWER OUTLET! The little things, you guys. We kept singing this song from “Annie.” Because, this whole scene is pretty much a description of our experience thus far.

After an incredibly relaxing hour-long break, we headed to a safety information session for the new English-speaking passengers.

Soon thereafter, we decided to explore the museum a little more. There is a Chocolate Bar. Not like the physical time. Like a bar. Dedicated to serving chocolate.

Whilst exploring, we saw that the entertainment for the night was a circus, and therefore, we decided to head to our “Stardust Theatre” at 7:30 for the show. It ended up being pretty cool. We witnessed great gymnastics tricks, dancing and spinning on roller blades, a man juggling chainsaws, great illusions, and fun choreographed dances.

After our “circus” trip, we went for our dinner at 9:00. It was incredible. And we were so hungry! We were presented with a menu and were invited to select one appetizer, one main course, and one dessert from a variety of choices. Plus, on the table we were welcome to help ourselves to a huge basket of bread. I ended up ordering, Gnocchi in a mozzarella and tomato sauce, grilled mahi mahi in a white whine sauce, and a “mango parfait” with vanilla sauce for dessert.

After dinner, Kelsey and I headed back to the room and passed out immediately for another good hour-long nap. The ocean rocked us to sleep! I’m so excited for the rest of the trip. Tomorrow, we make port in Savona!
